But looking ahead for next year, what can we see?

In the latter part of 2013 we saw candidates making rigorous and balanced career decisions, evaluating their career opportunities based on considering all of the long-term and short-term factors with maximising personal growth and job satisfaction in the short term as paramount.

The demand for top talent is greater than the supply and companies now need to nurture their talent investments if they intend to retain the best candidates.

From the recruitment perspective, performance based interviewing and objective evidence based assessments are now more in vogue than the older competency models. In-house hiring managers, whilst tapping into company employee referral schemes are realising the importance of having agency partners on board to fill those strategic gaps that referrals just can’t reach. Company leaders are finally realising that hiring great people is the most important thing their company can do.

Finally, predicting on-the-job performance isn’t based any more on previous skills, academic qualifications or even past experience. Sifting candidates in on this basis is the easy bit. The more difficult bit is ensuring the fit with your company culture.
