Years ago (less than 5) clients were coming to us for marketers that knew how to engage customers and create ‘brand loyalty’. The next big trend was ‘all things digital’ and clients were also looking for skills to leverage new channels including social media. Now automation has become a ‘must-have’ too and content creators are in higher demand than ever. Clients need marketers who can create the story of the business; spread the word over multi-channel platforms, engage the customer, keep them ‘sticky’ and develop the differentiators needed to win market share away from the competition.

Out of the ashes of all these trends a new one is arising – a need for a marketer who fully understands the business model and can talk about business finance with the Board in a comfortable way. A marketer who is also a true journalist, able to create and manipulate news and the business story. A marketer who can arm and create advocates in the business and inspire internal teams to individually drive the corporate ambition further.

And the next recruitment trend coming over the horizon? The CTIO (Chief Technology Innovation Officer) or perhaps even the Chief IoT Officer – the marketer that manages the Internet of Everything.
