In the 25 years I’ve been in the recruitment business one of the things that I’ve seen innumerable times when placing both full time and contract marketing staff in IT organisations is that these businesses give a new meaning to the word ‘agile’!  The pace at which change and innovation happens for our clients can mean the marketing leaders we deal with need to constantly consider and adapt their organisational structure as the business moves on.

Often organisational changes and structure fail to achieve the desired result – we’ve learned that adaptability is key! For example, it’s not uncommon to see a job description evolve over the recruitment process as a company responds actively to changing marketing needs and project demands.

Over the years I’ve observed a few common symptoms of team structures that are not fit for purpose. These can include: confusion over roles and responsibilities within the team; a lack of alignment with other parts of the business.  An organizational structure in need of an overhaul often destabilizes its team members, results in delays and distractions for staff, creates a perception of failure from stakeholders who at times experience a slowing in the delivery of results.  Increasingly I see client contacts focusing on alignment with strategic priorities as a key way to help build out the organizational model for their team and taking innovative approaches to how they structure their organisations.

We held a free live webinar on this topic on November 29th. Thank you to all the marketing leaders who attended – your contributions were invaluable.

Don’t worry if you missed it! You can still learn how to better handle marketing restructures and optimise your marketing resources.
