Whether you’re in B2C, B2B or B2P marketing, you can’t have failed to notice the tsunami of new technologies coming on stream and pushing the boundaries of the traditional marketing space.

A recent informal survey of some of our marketing folks indicates that despite the hype, new technologies are not anchored in the planning or execution of marketing strategy or activities. In fact, one marketing director told us that the only way they can integrate new technologies is when their agency suggests it as part of a campaign. In other words, your typical C-suite isn’t up-to-date with the benefits of new technologies and prefers the traditional approaches to marketing.

Here at Marketing Moves, we’ve spotted an opportunity in the market for those ambitious marketers who have the skills in these technologies to really differentiate themselves and add value to their CV – making them the ideal candidate for their next big role.

Having an understanding of new technologies and importantly, how they can be applied to enhance marketing is impressive, especially if you can build the cost case for their use

Let’s look at a few of these new technologies.

‘AI’ (Artificial Intelligence)

In its simplest terms, artificial intelligence helps build systems that can do intelligent things. Machine learning (ML) helps build systems that can learn from experiences. Natural language processing (NLP) helps to build systems that can understand language. When NLP and ML are used together, it creates systems that can learn how to understand language.

AI could be applied in the following ways:

  • Journalism review / analysis
  • Media / publishers smart recommendations
  • Retailer or B2B personalisation
  • Cyber security
  • Context based marketing customer services
  • Social media reputation management

VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality)

Virtual reality is the computer-generated replacement of your environment or the teleportation of your reality in a digital sense, not reality itself.

Augmented reality or mixed reality enhances your current world, but unlike VR, doesn’t replace it.
