Why did Earnix need a Marketing Operations Director?
Due to hyper-growth at this Israeli tech unicorn, expansion of the business meant they needed to set up a world-class Demand Generation / Marketing Operations function. With this in mind, the company’s CMO contacted Marketing Moves’ Nathan Davies to recruit the new position of Marketing Operations Director.
Based in London, UK, the role would report to the CMO and would involve setting up and delivering the automation and marketing operations function for the business globally.
The successful applicant would drive the lead and customer nurturing initiatives to execute, optimize and scale marketing campaigns, database hygiene and segmentation to maximize new sales as well as renewals and cross-sales for existing customers using a range of MarTech solutions.
Finding the best available candidate for the job
The main difficulty which Nathan had to overcome was finding someone who had the breadth of experience and gravitas to work at a global director level but also someone who was happy to ‘roll their sleeves up’ and actually deliver / execute on the strategy.
Earnix is a unicorn – a privately held startup company valued at over $1 billion – and Nathan’s brief was to find candidates who ideally came from a high-growth, scale-up background who had done this before in a similar sized organisation
Most headhunters would have confined their search just to scale-ups as requested by Earnix, for reasons of time and ease. Nathan is different. His highly experienced, consultative approach meant that he advised the company to spread their net wider than high growth scale-ups, in order to be sure that the company was securing the best available Marketing Operations Director in the market.
Once agreed that he should leave no stone unturned, he comprehensively mapped out all senior marketing positions in the blue-chip corporate world as well as scale-ups.
Marketing Operations Director Recruitment
From both sources, Nathan created a long list of just six candidates, demonstrating how rare the ideal candidate was. The longlist of six was whittled down to a shortlist of three, who were all inducted into a five stage interview process with the CMO, Sales Director, Head of Global Talent Acquisition, Head of Demand Generation and VP EMEA.
After such a rigorous selection process, the successful applicant was selected. She joined Earnix after completing her three month notice period – a testament to the esteem she was held in by her current employer and the incredible job that Nathan did to secure her services for Earnix.
Importantly, she did not possess the preferred high-growth background – instead coming from an 18,000 employee business in the blue chip corporate world. She was chosen for her ability to build from the ground up and to understand what success looks like in creating a mature demand generation machine.
